Randy’s vision

Randy still believes in an America where there is room for many ideas.  As we learn to listen with respect and work with integrity, he is satisfied that, together, we will discover how to prepare our children for successful lives in the 21st century. Randy says that, “One thing is certain! Your child, my child, our child must remain at the center of every discussion.”

USBE Encourages Best Practice

I am fully supportive of these four current State Board Initiatives: EARLY LEARNING Each student starts strong through early grades with a foundation in literacy and numeracy. SAFE AND HEALTHY SCHOOLS Each student learns in a safe and healthy school environment. PERSONALIZED TEACHING AND LEARNING Each student and educator has access to personalized teaching and learning experiences. EFFECTIVE EDUCATORS AND LEADERS Each student is taught by effective educators who are supported by effective school leaders.

USBE Promotes Local Control

If elected, I will work with USBE to promote local control of public education.  Maximizing student potential is ensured when parents, the student and the teacher work together to explore the most appropriate learning strategies for every child.  Furthermore, districts and charter schools effectively plan for and deliver the best education for each of Utah’s children at the local level when your child, my child, OUR child remains at the center of every decision. USBE will provide support, training and professional development for leaders of learning in local units.

USBE Reinforces Achievement

Each student and their support team will celebrate educational successes state-wide by inviting local district and charter boards to communicate and raise awareness of the phenomenal achievements in all Utah schools.

USBE Provides Supportive Oversight

Each student thrives because district and school’s organizational operations are effective and responsive to individual needs. USBE provides internal audits, designed to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of governance, internal control, and risk management processes.

USBE Advocates for Resources

Reasonable resources to meet the ever-increasing costs for a quality public education will be ensured by State Board members who enthusiastically advocate with legislators to secure Utah’s educational investment for the future.

USBE Facilitates Yearly Progress

Local districts and charter schools focus on closing the academic achievement gaps so that every student is prepared with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to maximize opportunities and choice after high school. Students master clearly articulated academic standards, completing aligned assessments in all content areas of Utah’s guaranteed and viable curriculum framework. Families, local districts, and charter schools collaborate with USBE to access resources to support each student’s yearly progress

USBE Favors Simplicity

USBE, local districts, and charter schools will ensure that every required form, application, and report has been streamlined, with redundancies eliminated, thereby reducing the work load of parents, students, teachers and administrators..
