Performing Arts

I enjoyed serving on the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Advisory Board, on Utah Arts Education Collective Impact Steering Committee and on the State Committee for the revision of Utah Core Arts Standards.  In addition, the BYU Public School Partnership provided me with opportunities to explore best practices with district superintendents and gifted local leaders of learning.  Currently, I am serving on the Board of Directors for One Voice Children’s Choir. One Voice Children's Choir (OVCC) is a musical artist working to inspire the world through their music and performance. One Voice Children’s Choir is comprised of children ages five through eighteen living along the Wasatch Front in the United States. One Voice Children's Choir began at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Since then One Voice Children's Choir has grown into a unique force in the entertainment world: Quarter-finalist on NBC's America's Got Talent Season 9, performing at the White House, touring in a number of countries and across the United States and most recently hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Kid Album chart. With over 4.7 million subscribers and 1 billion views on YouTube One Voice Children's Choir has become a household name for heartwarming harmonies and dynamic original arrangements of popular music. The group’s music has been picked up by HBO, Nickelodeon, Netflix, The Today Show, PBS, and radio stations and playlists around the world. One Voice Children’s Choir is part of One Voice Children 501c3, a nonprofit organization with a mission to inspire the world through the power of children’s voices. In January 2024, One Voice Children's Choir completed a sold out concert tour in China.

Beverley Taylor Sorenson Advisory Board

The Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program (BTSALP) provides arts-integrated instruction to elementary students, effectively increasing student performance in every subject—from language arts and social studies to math and science. The program is currently in 300 Utah elementary schools in 31 districts (including over 30 charter schools) and is serving approximately 202,800 students.

The BTS Program puts specialists trained in one of four art disciplines (visual art, dance, music and theatre) in elementary schools to work alongside classroom teachers to develop lesson plans for the core curricula that incorporate art. The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) administers the program statewide, and collaborates with deans and university staff from Utah State University, Weber State University, University of Utah, Westminster College, Brigham Young University, Southern Utah University and Dixie State University to provide professional development for the arts specialists and classroom teachers. These higher education institutions also work with the USOE to manage the successful implementation of the BTS Program in their respective areas of the state.
